English Premier League, KO: 16:30 Nov 3, 2024, Old Trafford
Manchester United go head-to-head against Chelsea on Sunday. Read our Predictions and Betting Tips with Match Preview, Head-to-head stats (h2h) and Team Form Analysis.
Our prediction for this Premier League match:
Struggling Manchester United will look to get back on course in the Premier League when they face Chelsea on Matchday 10. The Red Devils suffered a 2-1 loss to West Ham United at the weekend and, as a result, Erik ten Hag is no longer in charge of the team. Interim manager Ruud van Nistelrooy is likely to make changes to the starting XI, with both Amad Diallo and Victor Lindelof pushing for a start. Noussair Mazraoui should be fit for the match after overcoming his minor injury.
The Blues, on the other hand, have been producing fine displays under new boss Enzo Maresca and they must be high on spirits following a 2-1 win over Newcastle United. Given the current situation in Manchester United’s dressing room, we believe that there is a big value in betting on the capital club. Winger Jadon Sancho is ineligible to face his parent club, while there are no fresh injury worries in the visiting team.
How the bookies view it: Duo difficult to separate
The bookmakers are struggling to separate the two teams, with the pair both priced up at 29/20 on 777pub. As for the draw, that outcome has been chalked up at 29/10 with the same PHMACAO bookmaker.
Head to head: History favours the hosts
Chelsea have come away empty handed from each of their last two visits to this venue. In fact, the Blues have failed to triumph at Old Trafford since the tail end of the 2012-13 Premier League season.
Players to watch: Palmer to put on a show?
I successfully backed Cole Palmer to earn two or more fouls against Newcastle last weekend and I’m more than happy to side with the same selection on Sunday at even-money (1/1) on PaddyPower. The Chelsea talisman has been fouled twice or more in five of his last six Premier League appearances.
Bruno Fernandes bagged a brace in Man United’s 5-2 win over Leicester on Wednesday night. The Red Devils captain is 5/2 on TA777 to make the net bulge against the Blues on Sunday.
Predicted line-ups
As always, Manchester United’s treatment room is pretty busy at the moment, with Antony, Harry Maguire, Kobbie Maino, Leny Yoro, Luke Shaw, Mason Mount and Tyrell Malacia all ruled out with injury.
Blues boss Maresca will be unable to call upon the services of Jadon Sancho, who is prohibited from featuring against his parent club.
Manchester United: Onana; Mazraoui, De Ligt, Martinez, Dalot; Casemiro, Ugarte; Rashford, Fernandes, Garnacho; Hojlund
Chelsea: Sanchez; James, Fofana, Colwill, Gusto; Caicedo, Lavia; Madueke, Palmer, Neto; Jackson
Manchester United vs Chelsea Prediction
Ruud van Nistelrooy will make his debut as a Premier League manager as he took over Erik ten Hag on Manchester United’s bench after a 1-2 defeat at West Ham last weekend.
Manchester United have just not been pulling up any trees since the start of the season and parting ways with ten Hag was the only logical solution.
New manager had his official debut on Wednesday evening, taking Manchester United to a 5-2 win over Leicester City in the last-16 round of the League Cup at the Old Trafford.
It will be very interesting to see how the players will react in the first league game, especially since the rivals come in the form of Chelsea.
The Blues returned to winning ways by beating Newcastle 2-1 last Sunday as Cole Palmer stole the show with a marvellous all-round effort at the Stamford Bridge.
Chelsea are fifth in the league table, currently sitting six points above Manchester United in 14th position.
Chelsea have been excellent on travels so far in the season, winning three of four Premier League matches away from the Stamford Bridge.
They are now up against Manchester United who won just one of the last five league fixtures. The Red Devils have failed to find the back of the net in three subsequent league games as well before scoring three goals in the last two matches.
Their attacking line looked fantastic in mid-week’s cup tie with Leicester. Knowing that Chelsea play attacking-minded football under Enzo Maresca this season, we have many reasons to expect goals on Sunday at the Old Trafford.
Moving forward, we’ve seen goals at both ends in each of the previous six head-to-head encounters between these counterparts.
Also, with three wins in four away league games for Chelsea, we fancy the away win pick.
You can get the 4.00 odds for Chelsea to win & Both Teams To Score pick. We will also back Chelsea’s star man Cole Palmer to score anytime at the 2.40 odds.
